Brooke Shields is on the road to recovery after breaking her femur.
In a new interview, the actor shares that she fell off a balance board while at gym, ended up flying into the air and landed with such force that she broke her right femur. The star was in and out of hospital for weeks but says physical therapy has been extremely difficult as well."The feeling of helplessness is shocking," she says."It felt like it was all in slow motion. And then I just started screaming," she tellsin a new interview, revealing she fell off a balance board while at a downtown New York City gym in January, and ended up flying into the air and landed with such force that she broke her right femur.
She underwent surgery to insert two metal rods, but later had a second operation after the broken portion of her right femur popped out. The doctors added five more rods and a metal plate to anchor it all in place. She said she went home but developed a severe staph infection which required her to return for emergency surgery on the IV site where she'd had three blood transfusions. When it was all over, however, she needed to start the real work: physical therapy."For the first time in my entire life, I thought, 'I can't power through this,'" she recalls."I can't even stand on my leg or go up a step. I need to relearn how to even walk.
