The 13-year-old boy who was arrested in connection with the murder of a Mondeor High School pupil will be assessed by a probation officer who will compile a report that will be part of a preliminary inquiry, the National Prosecuting Authority said today.
“A 13-year-old boy appeared in the Juvenile Court at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and the matter was rolled over to Friday for the boy to be assessed by a probation officer who will compile a report that will be presented to the court so that the process of conducting a preliminary inquiry can be kick-started,” NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said.
Mathebula was fatally stabbed on his way to school on Wednesday morning. The boy was arrested on the same day. Mjonondwane said the inquiry was part of the child justice act, and needed to be conducted within 48 hours of the child’s arrest.A memorial service will be held for Mathebula on Friday at Mondeor High School.
