“It's something that shouldn't happen, but it does.”

Kyle O'Riley, 12, died on Sunday when he was electrocuted by an exposed cable in the Umbilo canal.Sunday was tragic for a Durban family when a 12-year-old boy died after being electrocuted by an exposed electrical wire in a canal he was crossing.

Police divers from Durban Search and Rescue , Durban Metro Police SAR and Durban K9 SAR were deployed.This is not the first time illegal connections at the M7 informal settlement have ended in tragedy. The pair was chasing a suspect through the settlement. He had allegedly stolen cables and opened fire on police detectives.

His sentiments were echoed by DA ward 65 councillor Samantha Windvogel, who visited the boy's family on Sunday.

EFF connections

I recently seen one of illegal connections in person and i was mortified, uninsulated cables running accross the ground, leaking communal taps and puddles of water everywhere. Kids playing, eish, it was such an uncomfortable sight
