Beaches north of the Umgeni River up to Salt Rock remain closed as a precautionary measure after the spill that occurred when a chemical warehouse in Cornubia was torched during the recent unrest in Durban.

Dead fish have washed up on the beaches of Umhlanga and Umdloti, prompting a warning from eThekwini municipality for bathers and fishermen to steer clear.

“Collecting or harvesting of any marine living resource in the area is temporarily prohibited as they have been exposed to toxic chemicals and could be harmful to human health. This warning and temporary closure of beaches remains in place until the threat has been determined to be abated,” said municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela.

Racial killings are a disgraceSOWETAN | That racially motivated murders were committed in the name of protecting the community against looting is a disgrace. Such acts of vigilantism have no place in a democratic SA. Ah now it's racially motivated, those were bloody criminals no matter what race they were As much as we don't want vigilantism, are we protected in our communities, villages, towns, locations? Do we have enough police personnel? Is government care for us? Is government preaching the same gospel to thieves to move away from our properties? 😷 I saw several people testifying of making so much money with the help of shantelll_142 on Bitcoin option trade and I decided to give a try and now I'm glad now she helped me and my colleagues to make R40,000 in one week, thank you for transparency and trust.
