Former England flyhalf Stuart Barnes says the Springboks should be considered among the top three contenders to win the 2023 World Cup in France.

The Springboks concluded their 2022 campaign with a first victory over England at Twickenham in eight years. That result saw the world champions end the year with eight wins in 13 Test matches, for a ratio of 62%. Only France and Ireland had better win rates in 2022, while the All Blacks were on par with the Boks after being held to a draw by England.

While the Springboks have been inconsistent under Jacques Nienaber and have experienced off-field turmoil, player-turned-pundit Stuart Barnes still backed them to defend their world title next year.“NZ could beat any of them on their day, but will not be stable enough to win a quarter, semi and a final.”

I’d say France, SA, Ireland in that order. NZ could beat any of them on their day but will not be stable enough to win a quarter, semi and final

Ah thanks Stuart, but we were always there. Gone from being hyper critical of the Boks to praising them…🫤

Man is a genius!

What's he been smoking

Stu Barnes knows his shit 👀

Pretty obvious I would have thought.

you guys should just keep betting the springboks to lose, it does wonders for us

Time for France or Ireland to win🇿🇦🫰

I’ve said for a while the boks will make the final

Saffas not great front runners. No Japan luck next year but, and there’s always a but, Boks may have a better team than 2019 version. And, Neinaber (?) is very impressive.

Underestimate them at your own peril we'll have another 2019 lol

Who can possibly work out the top 3? - top 1 is France - at home & have beaten everyone this season - 2, 3 & 4 are Ireland, SA & NZ in no particular order - 2 of these will be eliminated in QFs - Other side is weak but England, Australia or Argentina could get their acts together

Incredible insight.

Don’t care what Stuart Barnes says. He’s opinions are overrated. We dnt need him to say we are favourites

Consistency will be their enemy out of the group, they could easily lose a 1/4, 1/2 or final BUT the talent and “corporate knowledge” of how to win is there now as well as the on field talent. Medical team, strength & conditioning, nutrition team will do their Japan magic again!

RugbyPass but they’re sooo boring

I put $100 on them on Saturday afternoon at 6/1. I'm pretty happy with that.
