Last week, inspectors from the Animal Welfare Society , accompanied by a team of law enforcement officers from the City’s Animal Control Unit, raided the home of an alleged backyard breeder accused of mistreating, abusing and selling Pitbull puppies to dogfighters.During their inspection, they discovered four underweight adult Pitbulls and one Pitbull puppy.
There were no obvious signs that they had been fed recently, and only one filthy, shared water bowl was visible, which was out of reach for some of the dogs. All of the dogs appeared nervous, unpredictable and potentially dangerous due to a lack of socialisation and compassion.Cape Town pays tribute to Just Nuisance, world’s first naval dog
Their owner was ordered to immediately correct all animal welfare deficiencies, including but not limited to the provision of adequate food, water and shelter, as well as to unchain the dogs and comply with the City’s by-laws, which state that no more than two sterilised dogs are permitted per dwelling.
