FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were left angered by racist remarks made against Lamine Yamal , resulting in both teams taking action after their match on Wednesday.
The first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash between PSG and the Blaugrana at the Parc des Princes finished 3-2 in favour of the Spaniards. The Catalan side drew first blood in the 37th minute through Raphinha, but the French team went on to take the lead in the second half, with Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha netting in the space of just two minutes soon after the half-time break.
Raphinha then scored his second goal of the night to draw the score level, before Andreas Christensen's header found the back of the net to give the visitors an advantage heading into the second leg next week Tuesday. However, a disturbing incident occurred ahead of the match, when 16-year-old sensation Yamal was the target of a racist jibe by one of the broadcasters showcasing the game. However, a second pundit, ex-Atletico Madrid and Argentina goalkeeper German Burgos, remarked that"if he doesn't do well, he ends up at a traffic light", suggesting that Yamal would be poor if it weren't for football, with some of the other studio guests laughing at the comment.
With Barca and PSG's hierarchies catching wind of Burgos' words, they decided that their players would boycott all interviews withPresenter Ricardo Sierra explained:"I understand that many spectators expected us to have a conversation or interview with Barca. But PSG and Barça have notified us that they were not going to attend to us because they were tremendously angry with a comment that was made on our set.
