Phalatse had attempted to cling to her post by lodging an urgent court application on Friday that the special ordinary meeting of the council called to vote her out was illegal.Even so, the council was to vote for a new mayor on Friday after the no-confidence motion succeeded. The Inkatha Freedom Party was the only party that abstained from the motion.
“Okay speaker, the IFP is not participating in the process, it is abstaining from the process because of what has transpired in the meeting,” said Mabaso.Other councillors were shouting that the meeting was “illegal”. But Makhubele paid no attention to them and continued to announce the results where 139 voted in favour of the motion, no one voted against it and the IFP abstained.

Ordinary citizens & rate payers suffer the most from these political bickering. It must be worrying that the first act by new major is to go straight to the cookie jar and sort it out. ANC is known for abusing cookie jar everywhere they govern.
