A street in Pretoria and a taxi rank will be named after Jabu Baloyi - the taxi driver who was allegedly killed after confronting drug peddlers in the city centre - if the ANC in Tshwane has its way.

Pretoria - A street in Pretoria and a taxi rank will be named after Jabu Baloyi - the taxi driver who was allegedly killed after confronting drug peddlers in the city centre - if the African National Congress in Tshwane has its way.

"In memory of a martyr Jabu Baloyi who was shot and killed preventing drug peddlers from selling drugs to school children in the inner city, the ANC in Greater Tshwane region has taken a decision to honour him as a hero of our people," regional secretary Eugene Bonzo Modise said on Wednesday. "The ANC will initiate a public participation process to consider a proposal for council to rename both landmarks, that is Dr Savage Road and Savage Taxi Tank to Jabu Baloyi Avenue and Jabu Baloyi Taxi Rank respectively."

Modise said the ANC had communicated its intention to Baloyi's family, and was calling on residents in Pretoria to support the proposal.

Concentrate on service delivery you clowns. Names of streets are not going to alleviate any shortcomings.

Do it

Resource wasting support the family that's all have you questioned the killer maybe it was a different story bse plenty tax drivers are drug abusers

pretorianews They love wasting money how about fixing the economy so young people have jobs instead of coping with poverty using drugs

This is nonsense - taxi drivers endanger life every day with their unlawful driving - it would be a travesty to do so...

The ANC always hijack after the dust sleep on the floor. EFF is leading in this country but indirect. They must stop coping and serve our people with dignity.

Stupid ANC that's all they think about instead of solving the problem that the brother died for

We can't be going like this, how many streets are you going to change? Many people do good things may be recognize in a certain way not through this of naming streets its costly and our history is lost also.

Will that feed his family? will it take his kids to school up to university? Buy Clothes for them? People need to be serious, all family needs right now is somebody to look after them, how about a trust fund for the kids so they can study and leave a comfortable life? 😳 MYANC

Unbelievable..... Why not give that money to someone who really needs it? Don't need more street names changed FFS

Lets hope his family will also benefit

And after all streets have been renamed how will u spent taxpayer money then? Im completely for the taxi driver who lost his live... would his widow or kids not benefit more if u gave them the money

Gauteng departments owe municipalities R89m for services - DAGauteng provincial government departments owe ANC-led local municipalities over R89m for utilities. 'Wait, what? We can't just take money? We have to pay for things? No one told us it worked this way' It's bizarre that with figures in the 100s of billions being thrown around for so long, R89m just doesn't even sound like that much anymore. Shows you how we get conditioned.
