Deputy President Paul Mashatile faced questions on how the government intends to deal with municipal debt to Eskom and water entities.

CAPE TOWN - Deputy President Paul Mashatile said the African National Congress doesn’t interfere with appointments made at a municipal level.Mashatile was responding to oral questions in the National Council of Provinces on the problems facing municipalities and how they owe billions in debt.

He faced questions on how the government intends to deal with municipal debt to Eskom and water entities. Mashatile was also asked about the ANC’s cadre deployment policy and how such appointments contributed to distressed municipalities.- Eskom energy crisis due to ANC cadre deployment policy: DA"We as a governing party don’t interfere with the appointment of people in government at all. The honourable member does not understand the issue of cadre deployment. It has nothing to do with just appointing people in government.

Mashatile said the ANC had started interviewing mayors before they were appointed and managed to get qualified people to run municipalities. Today at 14h00, Deputy President, Hon.
