SPRINGS - The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union has accused the state of meddling in a private labour dispute at the Gold One Modderfontein mine in Springs.
Amcu wants to be recognised at the mine where NUM is currently the only trade union with organising rights.Amcu regional leader, Tladi Mokwena, said that security on site was exaggerated. "A lot of police have entered the mine. They’ve staged a station inside the operation inside the mine. You can ask yourself: 'How possible is it that police, the state, are involving themselves in a labour dispute?' They were brought food... two trucks. Why have they not been prioritising the workers who had been underground since Sunday."
Meanwhile, Amcu leaders are currently on a drive to gather hundreds of signatures for a fresh petition to be recognised at the mine. An unverified number of mineworkers have resurfaced since their shift on Sunday but hundreds more are still being held hostage underground.'
