Parliament’s arson and terrorism accused Zandile Mafe’s first appearance in the High Court sitting in Western Cape got off to a dramatic start.

It was meant to be the pre-trial hearing for Zandile Mafe, charged with arson and terrorism after allegedly setting Parliament on fire in January. Instead, a court orderly informed the judge of a bizarre situation saying Mafe was refusing to get up from the floor despite several attempts to lift him up. Ayesha Ismail was there and tells us more. #dstv403sitting in Western Cape got off to a dramatic start.

“I must say I did not anticipate that Mr Mafe would not be able to come up to the courtroom. He is not well physically, he has been on hunger strike for some time," Godla said."Unfortunately I did not get any information from Pollsmoor as to when Mr Mafe embarked on the hunger strike." The NPA says it will be in possession of all the necessary documents by next week and will proceed with the trial
