Social development minister Lindiwe Zulu says 11,479 public servants receive old age grants, 6,098 receive disability grants and 4,639 receive care dependency grants. File photo.Arrangements are being made to suspend all social grants, except foster child grants, received by public servants, said social development minister Lindiwe Zulu.
Zulu made the announcement in a reply to a parliamentary question in which she indicated 177,108 public servants were paid grants totalling R200m in July this year. Most recipients received the child support grant, costing the government R122m, and 11,589 received foster care grants worth R20.7m.6,098 received disability grants; andZulu said public servants are entitled to receive the foster child grant.
“Where the foster child grant is paid in conjunction with a care dependency grant for the same child, neither are means-tested, and public servants would not be contravening any laws by receiving these grants,” she said in her reply to a parliamentary questions posed by DA MP

This is the same as paying ghost grant beneficiaries knowingly, they must be blacklisted for 5yrs if caught doing such fraud.

Got really excited to read that there were plans to remove all social grants, until I saw that it was not the end of the sentence.
Removed, so what happens to the money already recieved? Fraud cases, dismissal from service? Just another case of slap on the hand & probably a promotion as a reward for those who benefitted because they are seen as clever to buck the system?

Goverment officials who get old age grants are mostly retired cleaners or people who used to earn around R5 000 per month. They were approved after complying with the means test set by Social Development.

The problem of paying public servants grants started when this minister hire her friends and relatives who are incompetent. She is the one who must be charged by her employer and not poor public servants.
