The African country among the host nations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup has made it known that they are determined to host the final of the competition. It will be the first time the tournament is held on more than one continent, with South America also set to host a preamble of fixtures, and the first time since 2010 that the tournament returns to Africa.
On 18 October, the presidents of each host nation's football federation will meet in an attempt to clarify which of their stadiums will be utilised for the contest, but also on the agenda will be which countries will host the opening ceremony as well as the final. The latter seems to be the issue that is the most contentious, especially after the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, made it clear that he envisages the home of the Atlas Lions being the backdrop for the World Cup's deciding match.
"We hope to experience an extraordinary final that honours the entire continent and the young generations in a stadium in Casablanca that will be extraordinary and wonderful," Lekjaa told Moroccan radio stationThe meeting later this month will be held in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, and while there may be a number of years before the tournament begins, the plan is to put together a dossier among the trio that will satisfy FIFA by July 2024.
