Cape Town housing NGO, Reclaim the City, is taking on the municipality for more affordable housing.

Reclaim the City wants a golf club and under-utilised bowling green to be developed, along with 21 other properties, into affordable housing.It wants authorities to make 24 properties available in and around the CBD for the development of low-cost housing.Reclaim the City wants a golf club and underutilised bowling green to be developed, along with 21 other properties, into affordable housing.

"The majority of people in Cape Town and South Africa have been subjected to years and years of dispossession and segregation, and we seeing the evidence of that where people are located in Cape Town," said spokesperson for Reclaim the City, Nkosikhona Swaartbooi. Swaartbooi is adamant that the city should come to the table before Reclaim the City members intensify their protest action.The city says there are already established housing programmes to address the issue.

While Reclaim the City says it has workable plans to implement possible developments of criminality, the City of Cape Town says ending these long-standing leases would be a long litigious process.
