The ACDP on Monday warned that paying an admission of guilt fine for a contravention of the current Covid-19 national disaster regulations would translate into a criminal record entry and called for an amendment to prevent this. | Day53ofLockdown

ACDP MP Steve Swart says the public may not realise the implications of paying an admission of guilt fine and ought to instead consider making written representations to the public prosecuting authority if they were charged with breaching the regulations.

Swart said there was a widespread sense that some lockdown regulations were "irrational", including the nighttime military curfew and restrictions on exercise and trade. "The ACDP urges the ministry to look into this matter urgently, given the large number of normally law-abiding people who have been arrested and charged under the lockdown provisions," he said.

However, it might not appear on the list of previous convictions presented to court because people's fingerprints are not normally taken when they pay an admission of guilt fine. Swart said it appeared that in the case of many of the admission of guilt fines being issued under the lockdown, the recipients were in fact fingerprinted and formally charged, hence it would show up on their criminal records.

Curbing outbreaks: Zweli Mkhize on what next in SA's fight against Covid-19Health minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says that his department has got the most out of the lockdown and that the current risk adjusted strategy is about buying time for South Africans to adjust to the new normal. Covid19SA That is all good and well, but who is curbing the 'security force' from stomping on us. A lockdown is meaningless and useless if you have thousands queuing to get SASSA and food packages we have idiots in charge that cannot leverage the 4th industrial revolution to keep social distancing That's an incontrovertible veracity. SA would've been severely devoured by this unprecedented attack to humanity. However, profiting from the knowledge we garnered on Covid-19, we've got to continue sternly with all precautionary measures and adherence to regulations.
