City Press understands that Pityana is expected to not challenge the group’s decision pending the outcome of an ongoing court matter in which he is alleging that the PA blocked his chairmanship appointment at Absa.However, a source with intimate details of the matter told City Press that the move by the group was meant to “frustrate and intimidate” him.
In in his affidavit, he cited former Absa chief executive Maria Ramos, who allegedly informed the Absa board that there were sexual harassment allegations made by a senior manager against him at AngloGold Ashanti, where he was previously chairperson. The source said the PA came to this conclusion allegedly without going through due process or having afforded Pityana an opportunity to hear what it was basing its decision on. The source said that an employee within the PA, whose name is known to City Press, undertook an informal process.
The source said it was confusing why Ramos bothered with the matter because she was no longer at the group and this was a group matter.
