17-year-old who raped and murdered elderly woman gets 18-year sentence

Provincial police spokesperson Capt Olebogeng Tawana said the court also declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be added to the national sex offenders register.

“In July 2021, the accused accosted an 81-year-old at her home in Cassel village where he raped, murdered and robbed her of her belongings,” said Tawana. “The accused was arrested, the investigating officer, Lt-Col Doggy Magugu, successfully opposed bail, and he was kept in police custody until the finalisation of trial.”TimesLIVE

This is a NONSENSE of a sentence...18 years and out in probably 7 to 8 years. May the elderly he raped and murdered fight him from her grave and may this young man die a slow and painful death!

That's nice; let them live on, funded and protected with our tax money. Lesson not learned and punishment not delivered.

For this kind of crimes (rape & murder), against this kind of victim (defensless & vulnerable senior citizen) & by this kind of criminal (a thinking reasonable man), the sentence is a miscarriage of justice. NPA must appeal the sentence & seek for double life.

Its a disgrace, only 18years for rape and murder. He'll only be 9yrs in prison and will be release on bail, by that time he'll be 28years old, and will again commit crime. Our judiciary is failing us. Bring back the death penalty.
