14 people escaped police custody this week, but stats still look better than 10 years ago

The 14 detainees who escaped from police custody across the country this week are among the around 500 people that slip through the police's fingers every year.

In three separate cases in three provinces this week, 14 detainees managed to escape from police custody. The head of the Justice and Violence Prevention Programme at the Institute for Security Studies, Gareth Newham, said there had been a dramatic decrease in the number of escapes over the last decade.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
