The DA has said the more than 120 000 teenage pregnancies between age 10 and 19 as at June 2019 should raise alarm bells in the country.

“Sexuality education in schools should focus on pregnancy prevention in schools but also awareness needs to be raised in communities,” DA MP Chantel King said.

King made the statement following a report in Independent Media on Friday which showed that the number of teenage pregnancies has increased in the 2018-19 financial year to 124 628 births, including those school-going children still at primary school level. KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng are leading the pack with the high number of teenage pregnancies.

This was revealed by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga in a written response to a parliamentary question from King.

African_Spring We are a brocken country, these are the results , there is worse to come.

Teenager.. and 'under age' are 2 different things. So these stats are a little bloated.

Was in a Home Affairs recently. I noticed the number of young teenage girls registering births. Very sad and concerning.

Tanaphoda nusr be shocked

It certainly should raise alarm bells. Angie’s new sex ed curriculum won’t solve this.

But the same DA is mos against ComprehensiveSexualityEducation.

The DA are alarmists. Everything is under control. The ANC has a plan.

120,000 X R400= 48 000 000.00

Wait do this pple earn wen ey get a child oooooiwh l see so tell how u gona solve it cuz l ve seen it in jozi a 19 yr girl she's pregnant for the second tym its like a race its so humiliating n embracing

Now how can any party ever improve or assist in this?

Absolutely!👌

Not to worry. Mam Angie said it will be fixed with the new LO curriculum.
