A WW2 veteran who is 100-years-old has tied the knot to his 96-year-old bride this month, inland of the D-Day beaches in Normandy, France. The pair met three years ago, after their friends set them up on a date.In a society where everyone is put under pressure to find love and settle down by the age of 30, stories such as the one of the following couple brings hope love can be found at any age.
Harold enlisted in the US Army Air Forces in 1942 and served as a radio repair technician. Jeanne at the time had military friends who would bring her souvenirs from the war. In 2019, Jeanne's fiancé, Sol, who she had been with for 24 years died while in the shower. Both the bride and groom thought they would never find love again, until their friends set them up on a date in 2021, at the Season52 in Boca Raton, Florida.
"A year ago, we were having lunch, and my friend says, 'You know, I like your girlfriend. She's pretty nice. Why don't you get married and why don't you get married in Normandy? Wouldn't it be nice to have a destination wedding in Normandy? Wouldn't that be memorable'?"
