Zoom Finally Rolling Out End-To-End Encryption Next Week

The video-conferencing software company announced it's IPO priced at $36 per share, at an estimated value of $9.2 billion.End-to-end encryption will be available as a technical preview, meaning that Zoom is asking for feedback from users for 30 days, as part of the first phase of Zoom’s rollout.

Since it’s an early version of the feature, users won’t be able to switch it on in rooms with cloud recording, streaming, live transcription, Breakout Rooms, polling, 1:1 private chat, meeting reactions or rooms where participants can join before the host, for now. To enable end-to-end encryption, users will have to turn it on for each meeting in its settings menu.

Zoom announced it would introduce the feature in June after CEO Eric Yuan was criticized for saying he wanted law enforcement to be able to access Zoom data from non-subscribers who commit crimes, particularly child sexual abuse.privacy shouldn’t be something only the wealthy can afford and marginalized groups are particularly vulnerable to surveillance because “recent actions from law enforcement—and a long history of discriminatory policing—have legitimized such fears.
