YouTube's purge of white supremacist videos also hits anti-racism channels

YouTube’s campaign against hateful and racist videos is claiming some unintended victims: researchers and advocates working to expose racist hatemongers.to remove more videos and channels that advocate white supremacy.of journalist Max Blumenthal interviewing prominent British Holocaust denier David Irving was removed from the SPLC’s YouTube channel.

A video channel tied to Cal State San Bernardino’s Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism also disappeared from YouTube, the center’s director, Brian Levin, said. YouTube declined to confirm whether the dozen or more academic videos were removed as part of the recent crackdown, but after the Los Angeles Times inquired, it said Thursday that it had reinstated the channel.

“Artificial intelligence has not been honed to the level where it can distinguish between content that is promoting the most odious bigotry, and that which is reporting and analyzing it,” he said. Another anti-racist group, One People’s Project, had an informational video removed from its YouTube page after Wednesday’s policy change,. A high school history teacher and a South African blogger were among others affected while attempting to counter white supremacy.

These businesses need to have complete responsibility/liability for what happens. And if the scale is too immense to police, they need to limit it.

Youtube should ban all videos.

Thank Carlos Maza gaywonk. His retaliation against Steven Crowder over a t-shirt has caused this mess to escalate and affected a lot of YT content creators.

Yet, lib videos are exempt from being banned.

What could go wrong? Demonetizing real researchers and journalists, that's what. Baby with the bathwater...

Deplatforming people is censorship. And it's based on Youtube's values, which are liberal. Youtube escapes regulation because they are supposed to be neutral. But they are not. If a racist makes a call on ATT they don't get shut down. Youtube should be regulated.

Well what do you know....unintended consequences when you try to figure out what defines “hate speech.” Hint—1st amendment says there is no such thing.

Will whomever is the last bastion of free speech in the known media universe (print, radio, TV, social media) please turn out the lights and lock the doors. What's the point in only allowing the neat and cool kids (as decided by?) to have a voice? They'll eventually come for you.

Charges against alleged white supremacists tossed by judgeFederal charges against 3 alleged members of a violent white supremacist group accused of inciting violence at California political rallies were dismissed by a judge who found their actions amounted to constitutionally protected free speech.
