last September. That may sound like a lot of customers, but it's a modest amount compared to paid media services like Spotify Premium and Netflix . In theory, locking 4K videos behind YouTube Premium could spur sign-ups and make it a larger revenue source for Google.

Will this effect the content creators views? Some only make content in 4K. The videos they create will be out of reach for many now. Most android users use a work around to skip commercials and don’t pay for premium. I don’t think it’s a good move.
people really thought storages are free.
We should call it “EstablishmentTube.” It’s not our tube, anymore, and it never will be again. It’s time for a decentralized replacement, blockchain-based. Everyone who uses dedicates a portion of their HDD, each video distributed in pieces; never have a whole file. Can’t be sued
oh no... anyway
I spend a lot of time on YouTube, why shouldn't I pay a few euros for the service I enjoy? Especially if it gets me rid of ads and gives me access to a decent (or slowly getting there) music service.
screw google
If you watch YouTube a lot the price of Premium is worth it just to avoid the invasive advertising. I’m even getting skilled at skimming past the sponsor segments in videos.
youtube being cocky
And the saga continues
As a person with 4K screens, this would really bother me. I already have to deal with this silly resolution tier concept from Netflix. I shouldn’t be subjected to blurry videos just because I won’t pay Google $16/month for a music platform I wouldn’t even use.
Just wait until Chrome bans v2 browser extensions come January. You'll not only have limited resolutions, but also no way to block ads. 2023 will be the year of the advert storm, I predict. It's already starting..
I think 4k video without corresponding audio quality is kinda silly
For those who don't like this. Are you as broke as me who can't afford 4k display and high speed internet?
No thanks. 1080p or 1440p is just find to watch clips that you fast forward anyway…
Definitely trying to see ‘Charlie bit me’ in 4k. Can’t wait.
F**k that! Not happening YouTube What are you people thinking Google this is straight unfair and not needed, are you seriously in that much of a need for more money?
Naa,, Thhat's fine. upscaling is fine.
Thanks for reminding me I need to cancel this before my free trial membership ends.
That’s crazy.
Is YouTube not making enough money? That’s the only way I see that being justified.
