Pettie is in charge of the trends and insights team at YouTube , and alongside his global team, he spends his days unraveling what's going on across the platform by tracking, researching, and watching YouTube. Pettie is subscribed to over 1,000 channels on YouTube, he said. "The thing that we are looking out for at any given moment is a change in either what people are creating, or what people are consuming," Pettie told Business Insider. "As we uncover those things, we look for connections with things that we've researched before, or other things that we've seen emerge, so that we can build a larger picture of what's happening on YouTube.
