Not every glassware shape is practical. I hate martini glasses and do not have any in my home. They look cool but their sloped sides mean they spill much too easily. There's nothing worse than having to walk around a cocktail party with a full-to-the-brim martini glass that inevitably spills drink on your hand.
The problem with too-big drinkware is that cold drinks get warm and hot drinks get cool before you've finished drinking them. This is especially important for cocktails served cold but not on ice — they warm rapidly and you don't want to have to chug them.
