Why are people so reluctant to trust their own memory without tools like calendars and GPS?

Does 7 plus or minus 3 or 4 digits sound familiar? When it comes to working space memory, and being proactive at the same time, one soon realises limitations! Without aid, we are unable to know choices!

I had a stroke a few years ago, and without my lists, etc. I lose my train of thought or get confused

Sometimes I use external memory aids, but I handwrite them. I stopped using calendar/reminders apps and returned to paper calendar journal. Writing (not typing) and intentional memory input help with recall.. or at least, “There’s something I’m supposed to do...”😉

We’re even losing the ability to work out change from $10 without the till displaying it. What does this say for our cognitive ability?
