Reed left a legacy on the Riders that is still being felt by current players and coaches

The head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, along with every other coach and player, pass by the statue of Reed —Reed also has a presence inside the stadium, with various photos of him around the building, as well as his name and famous No. 34 on the banner of retired jersey numbers visible from inside the stadium.

The statue of former Saskatchewan Roughrider George Reed is decorated with flowers after his passing on Sunday, October 1, 2023 in Regina.As the Riders returned to practice ahead of Saturday’s home game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats , Dickenson said he brought up Reed’s death with the team on Tuesday morning.

“He’s what encompasses everything it means to be a Rider,” said quarterback Jake Dolegala. “To lose a legend like that, it hurts the whole family for sure. “For me, him being an American as well, that’s the biggest impact you could have up here. It’s like the guy that every CFL player could model when you cross the border.

“Your legacy lives on forever. I think what he did here is going to live on forever and live on forever in the CFL as an all-time great human being on and off the field.”, kicker Brett Lauther injured his shoulder but proceeded to stay in the game. Dickenson said Lauther should play this weekend though.Linebacker Derrick Moncrief missed Day 1 of practice, as did offensive lineman Eric Lofton and defensive back Jeremy Clark .
