Yang also answer the question about taking on Trump by delivering what has become a trademark line for the long-shot candidate.

How many of you have ever tried to get a friend or relative a bed at a voluntary inpatient treatment facility? The problem is that there aren’t enough available and/or they aren’t affordable. There is definitely a lot of opportunity in this area.

Appreciate the thinking that went into this particular policy idea. However, I feel that the way it was discussed during the YangTownHall was a throw away line and the difference between 'decriminalization' and 'legalization' was not flushed out properly (unfortunately).
Decriminalization of opioids is not an effective solution to the problem, worked for cannabis because the problem there wasn't you know overdose and death. Even legalization, taxation, & regulation would be too little. Fine if we were talking regular opium, but we aren't.
Drug use is not a disease it's a choice. No one is forced to take drugs just like no one is forced to drink alcohol.

Very much disagree. Treatment is far from perfect, and it is driven by the will of the user, it is not like treating pneumonia. If it becomes legal there will now be a lot more curious people not afraid to try it just once.
Opiates are legal to posses & use with a valid presecription. The opiate crisis has been caused by doctors over prescribing opiates. So increasing the amount of legal opiate use is just going to make the problem worse.

Portugal decriminalized drugs 18 years ago. The results speak for themselves, the experiment worked. The reason it hasn't been implemented in the US is due to a stigma that drug users are bad people and the power that the criminal justice system has over them. Andrew is spot on.

Ummm... in Florida, heroin overdoses are reversed with Narcan. The user is then referred to a treatment facility, let out in 2 weeks when the benefits run out and will most likely do again only to get Narcan and repeat the process, Treatment facilities are a scam.
