Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said Monday morning that many of the tents located at the encampment near the intersection of Mass. Ave. and Melnea Cass Boulevard will be moved by Wednesday. The people living in the tents will be directed to available resources.

A Boston Public Health Commission worker collects a syringe from a puddle on Southampton Street during the relocation of people living in tents in the"Mass and Cass" area late last year.

"This effort to remove the encampments will take more than one day, but the efforts will begin in earnest on Wednesday," Wu said at the press conference. The city posted notices on tents last week that the area would be cleared on Jan. 12. For weeks, Boston officials have worked with other agencies and the state to create housing space for those in the encampment.
