VIDEO: WSDOT committee votes in favor of pay-per-mile charge proposalOLYMPIA, Wash. — One of the reasons why gas may be expensive in your area is because Washington has the third-highest gas tax in the nation.
But because there are so many more electric cars and fuel-efficient cars on the roads, people are buying less fuel than they used to — and that means less money paid at the pump for gas taxes. The state would waive the $225 registration fee for all-electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles when drivers pay for road usage by the mile.
Washington hates poor people
I’m sorry wtf
Sounds like I’m getting hosed, for having the gall to build a home outside of crime-ridden urban areas. 🙄
So WRONG for the people that have long distances to commute for their jobs!!
Just another racist and fascist “progressive” democrat tax hike to make poor people—who often must commute to work—poorer and rich white supremacist “liberal” fascists even richer.
Are WSTC voting to repeal the $.49/gallon tax and replace it with RUC? Didn't think so. Just opening another revenue stream in addition to existing ones.
Cigarettes are taxed 3 to 4 $ depending on where you live... js
GovInslee once again taxing the middle class
Big NO! How are they spending the money they’re getting now? Bc the roads are still shitty.
A GAS TAX IS ALREADY PAY PER MILE. How is this a hard concept to understand?
We already went over this. Charge the electric cars by mile and the gas cars with gas tax. Why is this so hard for the wstc to understand So stupid
Do you know who drives the most? Low income folks who cannot afford to live in the city. Once again, WA implementing a regressive tax. Way to go.
Get what y’all vote for!!!!
dawnegray3 the states make more money from gas sales than those who make it ,transport it , or sell it to you
What about the countless number of vehicles rolling around with out of state plates, some expired, never registered with the state. Do we turn in to a community of tattle tails?
Time to roll the odometer back!
How would miles driven be calculated and the tax assessed/collected/paid? Monthly, quarterly, annually?
I wonder what happens to those registered electric cars when the WSTC decides to cap how many miles are allowed per day
How would a person from out of state be handled? Visiting from Iowa
So, the State wants to tax electric vehicles more and give low-MPG rigs a break? How does this support our aggressive climate goals?
Only in Inslee’s Washington. Everything he touches turns to crap. What could possibly go wrong?
Nope. Tracking mileage is tracking movement. Hard stop.
Why does a supposedly progressive state continue to find new regressive ways to tax its citizens? This will negatively impact those who work in cities that they can't afford to live in or who drive for a living, or find have the luxury to work from home.
Nice concept, but won't work.
And they can’t even fix the vantage bridge right. Guess we’re waiting for someone to fall through into the river.
You'll get the pay- per- mile, still have gas taxes, and your registration will go up. They NEVER relinquish tax income. EVER.
'On Tuesday, the Washington State Transportation Commission voted unanimously to recommend replacing that high gas tax we all pay at the pump with a per-mile charge.'----OMG someone made a RECOMMENDATION. Get the guillotine!
Herding animals so that there is only one option left, which is the direction that you want them to go?
Fuck the WSTC
25¢ for grocery bags 49¢ for the right to buy gas I'm waiting for Inslee to directly tax the air.
Guarantee that when they consider in-state miles for non-residents - this will be in addition to the gas tax. This is also why Insleez' carbon tax is at wholesale level. That $0.46/gal estimated new tax will remain -and will never show on the pump sticker.
At $0.025/mi x 12k miles/yr (avg) = $300 r/u tax. Vs. 12k mi/yr divided by 22mpg avg =546gals x $0.49/gal tax = $267.27. This will punish drivers who get good gas mileage. Full stop. It's also not clear if the R/U tax will replace the fuel tax in any way! Stop stealing our money!
And the roads have been💩 for years
And when we do half of our miles outside of the state, will the state determine my miles outside of the state?
Very one sided argument there. Plenty of low income people have to drive a long distance for work and will pay more overall, not less. Not only that, but we all know that 2.5 cents per mile will quickly become 10 or 20 cents per mile, costing everyone significantly more.
Isn’t it the same as taxing each gallon of gas?!
This state is getting as bad as California. Tax tax and more tax... Thanks people look who's in charge, thank JayInslee because you voted for it...
Tax income
Sounds great because my 1980 SAAB Turbo odometer is broken. This should just apply to electric cars. Tax the electric charge stations to even it out. How would out of state drivers milage be tracked?
One car gets 20mpg the other 10. The one that gets 20 drove twice as many miles. Let's tax cars by miles. dimspeak
And that will go up another 46 cents or so next month when Inslee's carbon tax kicks in. Further, they can't do away with the federal part of the gas tax.
No difference. You drive you have to buy fuel. Fossil fuel users pay use tax at pump putting money in the tax coffers quickly.
