The Justice Department launched an antitrust probe of four auto makers who have an independent deal with California on emissions, people familiar with the matter say

WASHINGTON—The Justice Department has launched an antitrust investigation into four auto makers that forged an independent agreement with California on vehicle-emissions standards, according to people familiar with the situation.

Justice Department lawyers are seeking to determine if Ford Motor Co., Honda Motor Co., BMW AG and Volkswagen AG violated federal competition law by agreeing with each other to follow tailpipe-emissions standards beyond those proposed by the Trump administration, the people said.

If gop wants to talk about fighting socialism & the need for less government meddling in business, this goes against everything they claim. If business believes it’s in their best interest to standardize production & future-proof their operations, why should gov have any say?

Wait, thought conservatives were big on state's rights.

Freedom big government is bad principled conservatism free market blah blah blah blah blah....

These auto companies show they are concerned about the environment, while the Justice Department is concerned about upsetting Trump. I ask you, which is more important? I commend the auto co. and California for doing the right thing.

This is nothing but a joke. What’s funny is the government can’t force these companies to LOWER their fuel standards. So what’s the remedy?

Once again the trump mafia is in charge of our judicial branch.

Really, did not know they worried about car dealers!

That sounds like an abuse of power to me. Did realDonaldTrump sick the DOJ on the automakers because they didn't go along with his cutting gas mileage goals?

So your government is investigating car companies because they are trying to keep emissions down? And the government is trying to force emissions up? This is why the US is a laughingstock.

Amazing that this administration not only denies climate change but is actively trying to encourage more pollution

I wonder who put them up to that, no, I don't really wonder 🙄🙄🙄 🤮🤮🤬🤬🤬

Justice department once again out to hurt Americans

Of course Bill Barf did.
