SAN FRANCISCO—Google will keep its employees home until at least next July, people familiar with the matter said, making the search-engine giant the first major U.S. corporation to formalize such an extended timetable in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
The move will affect nearly all of the roughly 200,000 full-time and contract employees across Google parent Alphabet Inc., and is sure to pressure other technology giants that have slated staff to return as soon as January.

These tech co’s are the number 1 reason for growth & horrifically, Bay Area traffic congestion. They can figure this out and make workforce wfh indefinitely. Techs also hoarded a bunch of commercial land. They need to do the Bay Area another solid and build houses on those.

It's primarily an internet company. If they can't make do working remotely, who really can? Stop patronizing to monopolies and critic them on real questions: Will they ever pay fair share of taxes? Will they respect privacy & policy? Will they stop buying elections globally?

Great move. This also gives visibility to employees who were staying on rentals. They can move to native place and save money. Rentals / real estate are also likely to come down heavily. All tech companies shud declare this. Rental Mafia needs to be killed.

Look, it makes sense. Studies show people are just as productive at home. Companies can reduce their mortgage costs, off-loading office costs, computer and internet costs, telephone, etc onto the workers. Should be a win-win.
