Boeing is weighing either cutting or halting production of the troubled 737 MAX

Boeing Co. is considering either halting or further cutting production of the 737 MAX amid growing uncertainty over the troubled airplane’s return to service and could disclose a decision as soon as Monday, according to people familiar with the matter.

Boeing management increasingly sees pausing production as the most viable among difficult options as the plane maker’s board meets in Chicago starting Sunday, these people said. Support for halting production comes days after U.S. regulators warned the aerospace giant it had...

I mourn for the losses. BUT this feels like yet another modern entitlement fiasco. What’s the answer everyone? Shut them down? Shut ALL plane makers down. Let’s stop flying all together, because in the end, there is risk. I’m just saying, maybe the response needs to be more tame

Imagine any other company trying to fight its way out of a disaster like this.. you can't even have the cash reserves. They wouldn't even try. Boeing will be kept afloat no matter what. There are also design issues with older 737's.. Accountants designing aircrafts. Disgraceful

737 MAXe ... heard it hear first

Change the name of the darn plane. That will go along way to ending this thing.

How they're not facing criminal charges is utterly mystifying to me

jonostrower The United States needs a second manufacturer of large passenger aircraft. It is ridiculous that no other U.S. company is involved in the game now, given the size of the industry, the wait times for delivery following new orders and the projected demand in the decades to come.

Poor $GE

maggieNYT Good idea.

Fuck i own this crap

maggieNYT Wise decision since no one who doesn't gamble will even fly on this mistake.

maggieNYT I see a new name coming, bye bye Max.

KNX1070 What a frigg’n MESS.

maggieNYT Bad design. Software cannot overcome its physical problems. My opinion.

Boeing designedvan airliner that could only be flown safely with software. Then, they effed up the software...

sistercrow Self regulation allowed Boeing to choose profits over safety.

maggieNYT The 737 MAX has a major design flaw. Engines are not located in the most aerodynamic position which was the reason for adding the sensors to correct a potential stall out but which unfortunately malfunctioned to cause two flights to fatally nose dive! End production and redesign!

Finally. One death is too many, Boeing the All Mighty.

maggieNYT It was a flawed design from the beginning because they didn’t want to risk the cost and time to start from scratch with a new design to compete w Airbus. So they made compromises that they tried to resolve with software. I know I will never want to set foot in one of those Maxes

maggieNYT Here's a thought Go back to making aircrafts that can fly

I don’t want to fly in any airplane produced by the murderers, Boeing.

maggieNYT That brand is done for. They have to kill it and move on.

maggieNYT But I just read that Southwest Airlines is cutting 154 flights per day until the 737 MAX planes they have sitting idle are put back into service.

maggieNYT This pig ain't gonna fly.

maggieNYT How many billions would that write-off be? Damn.

Stop production.

jonostrower I think a Recession in 2020 just became a lot more likely.

Look who finally caught up.

Buybacks 😊

Stock'll trade up on the news..

But if you follow my account you knew all that already! NyawiraNjoroge

Waiting for the next step saying Boeing is weighing to dismantle them - which would be the right thing to do

Must halt

jonostrower I’m waiting for an aviation journalist to discuss the impact to the economy if production were to be halted. Boeing is a large exporter. The 737 sources components from throughout the country, from a number of companies, all who rely on the 737 program to stay in business.

This is what happens when the accountants design a plane to save money, instead of letting the engineers and pilots do their jobs. I'll be reluctant to fly on one of these, regardless of what remedial work is done on it. It's clearly flawed.

FireMuilenburg

They should have stopped immediately to begin with and gone back to the drawing board for a new model. 🙄

Well, someone had to be the last to know the fate of the MAX. I guess it was Boeing.

Doh , and cutting loose some executives shortly thereafter

Just build a whole new aircraft from scratch

Airforce one maybe?

How grim does that sound? Feels like there’s only so much an aeroplane’s software can do. Locating the engines where they are on a 737 MAX now looks like a design fault with no simple solution.

Who has puts?

Start over already. Boeing crashed 2 planes because they are incompetent. A 3rd would've crashed if not for a jump seating pilot that knew the problem. Putting Boeing in charge of their own FAA safety was a deadly mistake. Own it.

Who cares

It can’t be that the problems plaguing this jet are not correctable. Or are the software issues just the tip of the iceberg?

Bye Boeing

Why has it taken them this long?

This has gone so far now it’s probably the best thing to do
