Connecticut State Police said the driver, later identified as Robert John Washam, was first traveling westbound on the eastbound side of Route 2.Police said Washam was “traveling the wrong way in the right shoulder” and that's when “the suspect vehicle struck a State Police cruiser.”
According to police, “Washam was uncooperative with troopers on scene and exhibited signs of intoxication.” He was arrested and given “standardized field sobriety tests” but “was unable to perform to standard.” Washam, 69, faces eight criminal charges: reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer, suspicion of DUI, failure to drive in the proper lane, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, illegal entry onto a limited access highway, resisting arrest, and reckless endangerment.Stay Connected
