Women have been told they can have it all; however, they didn’t foresee that they’d have to do it all. Since the 1970s, women are more often than not expected to juggle multiple roles in their personal and professional lives effortlessly. The pressure to be a superhero can become overwhelming, from excelling in their careers to managing households. This societal expectation, while seemingly empowering, is increasingly proving detrimental.
The superhero label implies that women should be able to handle every challenge flawlessly. While it may seem empowering, it often sets women up for failure: Challenge Negative Thoughts—Replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations. Remind yourself that you are doing your best and accept that as fact.
In 2020, she started to feel something was wrong; her life wasn’t going as planned. Rafferty observed how teachers are put on a pedestal. She continues, “If we don’t take a step back and start focusing on the well-being of our educators, we’re not actually able to provide the services that we say that we are. The well-being of a school is dependent on the well-being of its educators.”
