Police say they received a call just before 1 a.m. Sunday to the 1900 block of Croskey Street for reports of a 40-year-old female with gunshot wounds to the chest. The woman told hospital staff and police that the injuries were self-inflicted and occurred when the gun discharged accidentally as she was trying to reinsert the fallen magazine while removing the gun from her waist.
However, due to the suspicious nature of the injuries, as well as the fact that the vehicle who transported the woman did not stay at the hospital, an investigation took place. The investigation later confirmed the self-inflicted nature of the injuries, which were supported by the evidence at the scene, as well as the woman's statement.
