Asian’s Best after one of them fatally shot a suspect during an attempted robbery Jan. 4 as the business was preparing to close for the night.

One of Asian Best’s owners shot and killed 33-year-old Rickey Cox Jr., of Manchester, when Cox barged into the restaurant with a gun at 6:50 p.m., according to York City police. Asian Best opened as a family business in 2009 at the 15 North Penn Street location. Before that, the family ran Chang Chow at 700 South Queen Street. The family posted on their business Facebook page that three generations ran the two restaurants.

Liz L. started the fundraiser Thursday saying her parents started the family business, then retired in 2019. Her brother and family then took over. “My brother, his wife, and his children took pride in providing the community they served with high quality food and great customer service that everyone knew and loved,” she wrote on the fundraiser. “The unfortunate and traumatic events of January 4, 2022, has forced him to close Asian Best for good, as the safety of his family comes first. In doing so, my brother and his family’s livelihood was taken away.
