Officer Truman Fitzgerald said there was evidence that the woman was a victim of homicide. They are not yet saying how she was killed.
Fitzgerald said it appeared that someone was living in the house, but it was also undergoing some type of renovation.Detectives were canvassing the neighborhood for possible witnesses and clues. They are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to call investigators. The woman is Birmingham’s 76th homicide this year. Of those, six have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Large house fire leads to power outage in North Side neighborhoodA house on the far North Side went up in flames, drawing a large response from area fire crews. The San Antonio Fire Department was called to the 10000 block of Dreamland around 7 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters first arrived, flames engulfed the home and made their way to the attic. Fire crews battled the flames from outside of the home and inside of the home, once it was safe to make entry. A man and his dog safely escaped the home uninjured.
