The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said the body of 78-year-old Rose Dyre was found floating in a creek off State Road 19 by a wildlife photographer on Monday. The body of 78-year-old Rose Dyre was found floating in a creek off State Road 19 by a wildlife photographer around 9 a.m. Monday, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies say there was no evidence where she was found and it’s unclear how she died, but added the photographer was at the location the day before and did not see the body. Because the body had already started to decompose, deputies are waiting until the Medical Examiner's Office completes the test to uncover the cause of death.
“The early indication from the autopsy, she had not been in the water that entire period of time, But it is likely that she had been deceased for a few days when located," Joseph Wells, the chief deputy of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, said.According to deputies, Dyre suffered from dementia and frequented areas between Jacksonville and Hastings.
