The shooting happened near 14th and Center streets, just after 10:30 a.m. Thursday.Officials say police were called about a woman threatening her boyfriend with a knife at a residence.
The caller reported his roommate, a woman, was armed with a knife and preventing her boyfriend from leaving. When officers arrived at the location they used a loudspeaker to tell the woman to come out. During this time, officers heard a male voice coming from inside the residence. Due to the report of the female being armed with a knife and the male indicating he needed help, officers made their way inside. This is when the shooting occurred, police officials say.The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Mesa Fire. Her identity hasn't been released.
Authorities say it appears to be an isolated incident and there is no further threat to the community.So far this year, ABC15 has recorded 21 shootings in the Valley involving law enforcement officers. Check out our map below for locations and details.
