The first flight was done solo — something that Satz said she was prepared for thanks to her training, which included practice time in simulators and written exams. When I was a kid I wanted to be a fighter pilot so bad (Thanks, Tom Cruise.) Later I found out you had to have 20/20 vision (no idea if that's actually true) which ruled me out early. But turns out, it wouldn't have mattered because as an adult I am terrified of flying.
