Nah there would still be ppl coming on w/o a mask
Very few laws are enforced in DC
They can't enforce time tables, children on platforms after-school or style jumping. Hell no
All I want from them is to be able to safely get people to and from work.
Also the big question for me would be can under 2's who can't mask use it?
It would probably depend which car and if the masked car is out of the way, such as the first car on the train. Wouldn't be enforced, but people who don't want it wouldn't go out of the way to use it.
They dont have to… the public will police themselves against antimaskers
It would be great if we lived in a society where people would actually honor this. But we are not an honorable society. People with Covid would intentionally get on the masked car, unmasked, to try to infect the masked. Sadly, that's where the country is right now.
I would still appreciate the intent, even though it might throw off my standard (location of the escalator at destination+rider density) car picking calculus
This is so stupid. I work in healthcare and for those that are truly immunocompromised, I feel for you. But the group of people I know that are still hyper vigilant about COVID match 1:1 with people who were dying for an excuse to never go outside again. No more.
This mask honor system will work as well as their ride fair honor system does.
So basically 6 card is reduced to 5 or more. Cool, less cars, that’s what’s needed
The DC library enforces their mask mandate. If only Metro had a group of people who were responsible for enforcing the rules. We could even arm them and give the power to arrest.
They didn’t enforce when the mandate was in place, so why would they start now?
*Ron Howard voice* “They couldn’t.”
Why not try? Even if it’s honor system only and 50% successful, would give fragile people more option to continue “living their lives” (as the anti’s all like to tell us to do)
This is the dumbest thing I’ve heard from Metro in a long time. They can’t even enforce everyone pays their fare. They can’t even stop idiots from doing drugs on the train. I’m not alone when I tell you that if it’s crowded I’m getting on the car without a mask. Your move wmata
Right. They'll be the cars with fewer people, and then folks without masks will start getting into them, or putting on masks long enough to get in and then take them off. Great idea that'll never realistically happen.
WMATA can't even get trains to not be death traps, let alone enforce fares. Good luck, especially on the trains that are packed.
Could? Sure. Will? Lol
Considering how Metro enforces absolutely nothing, including paying fares, this will not work
Metro never enforced the mask rule, so they wouldn't now.
Metro didn't enforce the mask mandate when it was in effect -- I would watch maskless people walk right in front of Metro employees and security. Kinda laughable they're suggesting they would enforce this.
That's a good idea. Amtrak should do the same...like 'quiet' cars.
maskmandate NOW! 😷😷😷😷
They couldn’t and shouldn’t enforce the previous mask mandates.
Seems like this could've been resolved a little more easily by just keeping the mandate in place from the start, but what do I know, I ain't one of the geniuses running WMATA.
lol. they can't enforce people paying a fare to ride. good luck with this.
WMATA is worried about the wrong things! Instead of debating reinstating mask mandates, how about reinstating actual trains to carry passengers?!
