“Drop a stone almost anywhere in the ocean and it’s likely to land in a place no human has been,” the octogenarian aquanaut Syliva Earle said. “But there’s life there, and life has been there for a very long time.”

“Do you like to breathe?” This is a question that the marine biologist and deep-sea explorer Sylvia Earle asks frequently. The ocean produces half of the oxygen on Earth. If it dies, humanity can’t survive, so humans better pay attention to it. When Google introduced its 3-D map, Earle pointed out that the designers had forgotten to include the oceans: it was Google Dirt, she said, not Google Earth.

Since the eighties, Earle has been designing manned submersibles. In late April, Earle announced that she had received a grant to produce a new three-person submersible. Her dream is to take children to the seafloor, “democratizing access to the sea.” It will be ready in about two years. Clam chowder was on the menu, but not for Earle: “Does Jane Goodall eat chimpanzees?” What kind of fish were the fish and chips? she asked. The cafeteria attendant answered, vaguely, “Cod.” “It could be one of three thousand species,” Earle said. “They lose their identity.” Knowing them, she maintains, is the prerequisite for protecting them.

I mean, isn't the same true for just about everywhere on land, too? Shit, you can drop a stone anywhere in any Abercrombie & Fitch store at the mall and no human has probably been there in the last 10 years.

the word has been 'crewed' for DECADES now, not 'manned'!! GET IT RIGHT NEWYORKER

Downtown Dallas prepares for reaction to Roe v Wade overturnIn Downtown Dallas, workers boarded up windows and put up gates around the Earle Cabell Federal Building in anticipation of what was to come. Insurrection Why, the left is such a loving, accepting, and peaceful people? I'm confused. Kinda weird people have to do this when the left gets a decision they don't like, and they don't do it when Conservatives get news they don't like. It's almost like history informs people that radical leftists are violent riotous mobs.
