Mere days before the first-in-the-nation caucuses, Pete Buttigieg has made morality and theology a key part of his closing pitch.

Citing scripture, he said there was a “historic opportunity to engage voters of faith,” including disaffected Republicans.

“We have got to at least make clear that it is every bit as natural for people of faith to be drawn to the Poor People's Campaign as it is to the 700 Club,” Buttigieg said, referring to an economic justice movement and the conservative Christian television program hosted by Pat Robertson. "Democrats haven’t even tried to talk to people of faith," said Shelley Smith, a 47-year-old teacher in Ankeny who described herself as a “person of Christian faith.” “All you ever hear is that conservatives are the ones who are religious. But everyone has their own beliefs, and it’s really nice to hear a Democrat speak about morals and values in a very religious way, but without shoving it down your throat.

“My whole life I’ve been waiting for the Democratic Party to connect with me and other people of faith, Lewis, a self-described “lifelong devout Catholic,” said. “He speaks so much about morality and inclusion and a sense of belonging, that all humans have value. And he says it, often, by way of discussing Christianity.”

.PeteButtigieg is posting quotes by Frederick Douglas, whose views on immigration was 180 degrees from Mayor Pete's. In an 1871 article in The Washington New National Era, Douglass reflected on the meaning of cheap immigrant labor for blacks: 1/3

Mmmmm...I wonder what Mayor Pete is trying to inoculate himself from in taking this approach? There is a reason for it, for sure.

Might I suggest Rainbow Jesus when he gets to California, he comes with tie dye and some glitter.

Its that non impossible

. .

Doesn’t matter. Trump is getting re-elected. The petty behavior by the left since ‘16 was enough to seal the deal

Does that mean he will condemn the Democrats’ immoral attempt to overthrow the US government?

Typical politician; when all else fails , invoke religion.

There's no America left.

I would vote for him

I am sick of people playing to religious bigots. People get rights not beliefs.

You have entered... the twilight zone.

ReligionIsSocialCancer

Good luck with that. Or is it an 'all is lost' lets see if I can get the religious nuts on board?

Iowa Democrats fear losing first-in-the-nation statusIf a Democrat doesn’t win the presidency this year — or if Iowans throw their support next week to a candidate who does not go on to win the nomination — some party officials say that the backlash would jeopardize the state’s first-in-the-nation status. Iowa doesn’t represent the diversity of the Dem party. It is not an accurate predictor of the primary outcome. It means very little. Texas, California, and New York should all have their Democratic primaries first on the same day.
