I would rather drive in Chicago in a snow storm than in Texas and other places where it only snows occasionally. Chicago drivers learn best practices in driving on snow and ice.
Even in the north we know not to drive if it's icy unless there's a good reason. Take your time, don't panic if you begin to slide.
