Winter Storm Atticus Dumped Up to 21 Inches of Snow in the Twin Cities; Great Lakes Damaging Wind ThreatIt was the heaviest snowstorm in Minneapolis-St. Paul in over three years.Winter Storm Atticus has produced over a foot of snow from the Rockies to the Upper Midwest and could produce damaging winds in parts of the Great Lakes before the storm is over later Saturday.

But there was a sharp north-to-south contrast in snowfall over the metro. The far northwest Twin Cities suburbs reported only 3 to 6 inches of snowfall. Generally 6 inches or less of additional snow is expected in the western Great Lakes before the snow departs into Canada late Saturday afternoon. In a Friday morning forecast discussion, the NWS-Buffalo, New York, office wrote, "This system has all the hallmarks of a high impact wind event for our region."
