Windows 11 has been installed on only 3% of consumer PCs in the year since its launch, according to figures from Lansweeper.– seems to be struggling to gain adoption in both homes and businesses.
The Lansweeper study of 27 million Windows devices found Windows 11 on just over 3% of consumer PCs by the end of September, and only 2.5% of business computers. That means Windows 11 is yet to overtake Windows 7, which was first released in 2009 and hasn’t been in mainstream support for more than seven years.Although Windows 11 is a free upgrade from Windows 10, many devices in homes and businesses do not meet the stringent minimum requirements for the newer operating system.
Lansweeper’s study of 60,000 different organizations found that less than 60% of PCs would be eligible for the automatic upgrade, which will hamper adoption. Those figures are a modest improvement on when Lansweeper conducted the same research a year ago, but it still poses problems for Microsoft. According to Lansweeper, if hardware continues to improve at the current rate, all PCs in businesses should be Windows 11 compatible by 2026. However, Microsoft plans to cut off support for Windows 10 in October 2025, although the company has notoriously allowed such deadlines to lapse in the past.
Sounds like people don't trust Bill's 'updates' 🤡
