Joe Biden, who is now second behind Bernie Sanders in delegates, is the most obvious potential beneficiary from Mayor Pete's exit

’s sudden exit from the race Sunday night, the biggest shakeup of 2020 field so far, could alter the state of play for the top two contenders, along with several other candidates whose increasingly longshot bids depend on strong performances in Tuesday’s 14-state primary.

Buttigieg offered no formal endorsement of the remaining candidates as he suspended his campaign, but seemed to take a parting shot at Sanders in his farewell speech. “We need a broad-based agenda that can truly deliver for the American people,” he said in South Bend, Indiana, “not one that gets lost in ideology.” Up until Saturday, the 38-year-old, former South Bend mayor maintained that he was best positioned to deliver that pragmatic vision.
