to move the team to Hartford after Connecticut offered him a $380 million stadium on the waterfront. He later backed out and kept the team in Foxborough, Massachusetts, after the state agreed to pay $70 million in infrastructure improvements.

Bowlen purchased the Broncos in 1984 from Edgar Kaiser, inheriting Mile High Stadium, where the team had played since its American Football League inception in 1960. Ultimately, the Broncos owner spent big money — and hired a team of high-powered lobbyists — to push a pro-stadium ballot measure over the goal line.across six metro counties in November 1998 said yes to a sales tax extension that would have taxpayers foot the bill for roughly $300 million of the $400 million, 76,000-person stadium, later named Invesco Field at Mile High.

sam_tabachnik This seems really silly, bordering on absurd. I think any effort to have taxpayers pay any part of another *NEW* stadium so a new owner can feel more comfortable about a ~ $4 billion investment is the epitome of misplaced priorities… and I’m a big NFL and Broncos fan.
